How to play Mahjong Solitaire
- A tile is free when it has at least one open side (left or right). Greyed tiles are blocked.
- Click two matching free tiles to remove them.
- Clear the entire layout. If you get stuck, hit Hint or start a new game.
Why some games are unwinnable
Mahjong Solitaire layouts are dealt randomly, which means some deals genuinely have no path to a complete clear — pairs end up buried behind each other in a deadlock. Experienced players spot these early by counting the visible copies of each tile. There's no shame in restarting a bad deal.
